Recurrent urinary tract infections are quite common in postmenopausal women, which is caused by hormonal changes occurring during this period of life. This pathology increases susceptibility to infections, patients develop frequent and painful urination, which leads to lifestyle changes. Traditionally, prevention is carried out with broad-spectrum antibiotics, which are characterized by many side effects, or herbal remedies (especially - based on rhizome preparations).
In recent years, the use of vaginal estrogens, both in monotherapy and in combination with antibiotics, and their effectiveness have been actively studied in the international scientific literature. However, comparative data on herbal remedies and local estrogen therapy are not available in the literature. Also, no study has been conducted in Georgia to assess the effectiveness of hormone therapy.
Therefore, the aim of the selected topic is to study the methods of managing recurrent urinary tract infections in postmenopausal women, with an emphasis on local estrogen therapy and its possible comparison with phytotherapy.
To achieve the goals of the project, it is planned to randomly divide postmenopausal women with chronic recurrent urinary tract infections into two groups (40 patients in each). After a preliminary examination, one group will receive phytotherapy, and the other will receive local estrogen therapy. Monitoring of patients will continue for 6 months, after which the results will be compared.
As a result of our study, we plan to update information on the management of recurrent urinary tract infections in postmenopausal women. In addition, the project will contribute to the deepening of the clinical and scientific experience of the participating students. Based on the results, it is planned to publish a scientific article, which will increase the prestige and visibility of the university.
